Innovation maintained over time in order to become a leading company in the sector
Since it was created in 1955 and the first focus was placed on PET packaging, many decades have gone by. A path where the teams have changed, the technology has improved and CAIBA was able to transform so as not to miss its goal of offering safety and sustainability.
1955
José Luis Baños Perelló founded CAIBA
A business born in 1955 as a coal distributor, hence the name: CAIBA, Carbón Industrias Baños [Baños Coal Industries].
1967
First polyethylene bottles
Caiba manufactured the first polyethylene bottle for oil packaging in Spain for ABACO, Aceites del Bajo Aragón y Coloniales.
1970
Leading Spanish company in the sector
Caiba became the leading Spanish manufacturer of plastic packaging for food.
1978
Plastinsa created
This Caiba subsidiary was created, dedicated to merchandising and POSA (Point of Sale Advertising) It would quickly become the leader on the Spanish market.
1980
Pioneers in PET
Caiba is the pioneer of manufacturing PET preforms and packaging in Spain.
1998
Inauguration of Caiba Jaén
Caiba opened a production plant in Alcalá la Real (Jaén) in order to supply packaging to the region with the highest olive oil production in the world.
2009
El Mundo Innovation Awards
Caiba received the Innovation Award from the El Mundo newspaper in the category of Best Company- Technological Institute Collaboration. The award was granted to research on the barrier effect and thermal properties of PET packaging through the inclusion of nanoclays.
2010
Hércules Economy and Tourism Award
The Town Hall of Alcalá la Real (Jaén) acknowledges Caiba’s role in the economic and social development of the town, granting it this award.
2012
Inauguration of a new location
The company moves to a new production plant in Ribarroja (Valencia) with 23,000m2. It has modern facilities, the most advanced machinery in the sector and a strategic geographic situation.
2013
We research sustainability
Caiba begins a research project to apply additives to its packaging that are capable of absorbing UV rays. The goal is to protect the olive oil, prolong its useful life and avoid food waste.
2013
Economía 3 Award
Caiba receives this award in celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the magazine Economía 3.
2014
Rotary Club Valencia Award
The Rotary Club Valencia acknowledged Caiba with the Community Service Award for its commendable work in development and activity, as well as for the services provided to the community.
2016
New shareholder
Nazca Capital joins Caiba’s shareholders with 75% of the share capital. The Baños family retains 25% and management of the company.
2020
Polyethylene and polypropylene added
Caiba includes new raw materials to its catalogue that are of great interest to its key sectors and with the objective of diversifying its client portfolio. For this, it acquires a family business specialised in these polymers (PRAMIX).
2021
Shareholder changes
The Portobello investment group acquires the majority of the shares held by Nazca in order to boost the company’s investments and drive its internationalisation.
